Initial Prefix indicates a variation of main body style: (N.B. initial prefix is omitted where variations do not apply)

C = Coach seating in a double-deck body
F = "Full-front" cab fitted to a body mounted on what is normally a half cab layout chassis
O = Open-top variation of single decker
R = "Part" upper deck incorporated at Rear of single-decker (sometimes known as "1½ decker")
U = Utility (Second World War austerity) specification bodywork

Prefix indicates main body style:

A = Articulated
B = Single-deck Bus
C = Single-deck Coach
DP = Dual Purpose single-decker (coach seats in bus specification body)
H = Double-deck Bus (standard layout with central gangway upstairs)
L = Lowbridge Double-deck Bus (low height body achieved by having a sunken side gangway upstairs)
O = Open-top double decker
CO = Convertible open-top standard layout double-decker

Numbers indicate passenger capacity:

Single number (i.e. #) indicates total seating capacity
Two numbers separated by "/" (i.e.#/#) (double deckers) indicates upper deck followed by lower deck seating capacities (where known)
After main number(s), "+" followed by a number (i.e. +#) indicates number of standing passengers permitted
N.B. where just the number of standing passengers allowed in the U.K. (normally 8) applies, by default no "+#" is shown.
Any +# shown indicates the total number of standees permitted.

Suffix indicates entrance/ exit positions:
(exact positions cannot be indicated and generally will depend on chassis design)

F = Front entrance/ exit (ahead of front wheels) or Forward entrance/ exit (behind front wheels)
C = Centre entrance/ exit
R = Rear entrance/ exit
D = Dual doorway
T = Triple doorway
TR = "Toast rack" style access to transverse bench seating

Final Suffix indicates additional body features:

D = Doors fitted to rear-only entrance/ exit doorway.
