Our Vision

The Museums vision is:
To be nationally acknowledged as the Museum of the Trolleybus and to entertain, educate and give excellent value and service to our visitors.

Opening Times

The Museum is open to visitors on selected days during the year. Click Here for further information, including dates and times and how to book party visits.

Visitors Charter

The Museum operates within the Visitors Charter of the English Tourist Board

Council for Museums, Archives & Libraries

The Museum is an Associate Member of Yorkshire Museums Council, pending an application to become a full member.

Health and Safety

The Museum operates within a Health and Safety Policy.
All operating trolleybuses are regularly and stringently tested before they are passed as being fit to carry members of the public.

Parking

Ample free parking for visitors' cars and coaches is available. This is normally within the Museum premises, but may, on occasions, be located elsewhere, with a free "Park & Ride" bus service provided between the Car Park and the Museum.

Disabled Access

Much of the Museum (including toilet facilities) is accessible to disabled persons, but there may be wheelchair access problems for trolleybus rides. We will assist wherever possible.

Operation and Funding

The Museum is operated entirely by volunteers. The Museum is privately funded, although grants may be procured from time to time for specific projects. To join, click here (PDF)

Loans, Donations and Bequests of Artefacts

The Museum is always interested in considering offers for the loan or donation of transport related collections or artefacts, and items relevant to the social history of the 1950s and 1960s, for inclusion in its archives and displays. Likewise, it is also interested in bequests of such collections and items. Each collection or item will be considered on its own merits and the Museum cannot guarantee it will be able to accept a collection or item. Enquiries and offers can be made by e-mail to or by writing to the Managing Director at the Museum address.

Donations & Bequests and Gift Aid

With the Museum being a Registered Charity (No. 514382), privately funded and operated entirely by volunteers, it always welcomes the donation of funds by individuals or organisations, and bequests of money, either for particular projects or towards the general enhancement and operation of the Museum.

Donations of any size, large or small, and made by individuals or organisations, and membership subscriptions, can now be made by way of Gift Aid - indeed, this way of making donations and paying membership suscriptions is encouraged - thereby enabling the Museum to recover the tax paid on the donation. This currently means that each donation is worth an extra 28% to us. A Gift Aid Declaration form is available HERE (PDF) for your use. A form may also be obtained direct from the Museum or by writing to the Museum address (please included an SAE).

Making a bequest to a Registered Charity may reduce Death Duty liabilities. Advice on making bequests should be sought from a legal or financial advisor.

Donations may be handed in at the Museum, or sent by post to the Museum Address (cheques should be made payable to "Sandtoft Transport Centre Limited" - please do no send cash to us by post).

New Volunteers

We are always pleased to welcome new volunteers to help at the Museum. You do not need to have particular skills to help us, and there is a wide variety of tasks that can be undertaken. Contact us by  or in person at the Museum, or write to the Operations Director at the Museum Address to discuss details. A membership form can be viewed by clicking here (PDF).

Film and Photography

There is no restriction on the taking of photographs or the use of video cameras for private use. Please include a suitable acknowledgement to The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft when using photographs or film footage on a commercial basis.
