Trolleybus Driving Experience
Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic outbreak we're unable to run our Trolleybus Driving Experience days at present.
If you were already booked one of the cancelled dates, we will contact you as soon as the situation becomes clearer to re-arrange your visit. We apologise for any inconvenience but we have to ensure the safety of our guests and staff.
Please contact us before making a new booking, and keep checking this page.
Have you ever dreamed of driving a trolleybus?
The Trolleybus Driving Experience (TDE) day is a unique opportunity to experience the thrill of driving a classic 2-axle British double-deck trolleybus around our Museum.
The day begins with tea and coffee whilst our experienced trainer gives you a safety briefing and explains the idiosyncrasies of the vehicle you will be driving.
Then, you'll quickly find yourself in the driver’s seat with an experienced instructor beside you and head out onto our trolleybus network. As the day goes on, you’ll learn how to drive a full “service run” of our trolleybus route navigating “frogs” and a multitude of “dead sections” set in the overhead. You'll learn the skills required to keep a 27ft.-long trolleybus under the correct set of wires, and feel how excitingly different it is to drive a large vehicle on electric power compared to petrol or diesel!
Participants will receive a certificate of achievement and a year’s free membership of the Trolleybus Museum which includes a subscription to our magazine, Sandtoft Scene, and free admission to the Museum on open days.
A buffet lunch and unlimited tea or coffee for you and one guest is included in the price of your TDE but you're welcome to book in additional guests for an extra £7.50 each. All your guests are welcome to travel on the trolleybus whilst you are driving.
Please be advised that as the Museum will otherwise be closed, it may be that not all areas and exhibitions will be opened up to look around.
All of this is available for just £250.00 (remember, additional guests are £7.50 each) and advance booking is essential. We advise that you book early as these spaces are limited.
Booking is only available online via this website – see below for dates and how to book.
Please note that there are four participants on each day and driving time is shared. The specific trolleybus used on the day will depend on availability.
